AMARO KINO is a new travelling short film programme initiated by the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC). The programme brings together recent short films that centre Roma voices, stories, and artistic visions, created by Roma filmmakers and artists who work closely with Roma communities.

Amaro Kino offers a carefully curated selection of films that speak to the richness and complexity of Roma life today, from intimate portrayals of identity and belonging, to bold forms of resistance, memory, and imagination. „The Life and Miracles of Saint Nicodemus of Tismana" von Liviu Barbulescu ist ein Dokumentarfilm, der als humorvolle Animation getarnt ist. Tragikomisch kombiniert Barbulescus Film den farbenfrohen visuellen Stil der alten rumänischen naiven Kirchenmalerei mit Cut-Out-Animation, um die vergessene Geschichte der Beteiligung der orthodoxen Kirche an der Versklavung der Roma* in Rumänien zu beleuchten. Der Film gibt sich zunächst als Komödie über die ungewöhnlichen Wunder des Heiligen Nikodemus aus, eines Mönches des 14. Jahrhunderts, darunter das Verwandeln eines Schweinesteaks in Fisch, das Schweben über die Donau auf seinem Stab und das Verfluchen eines Dorfes, um dem Publikum erst nach und nach das wahre Erbe des Heiligen Nikodemus von Tismana zu offenbaren.
