The full-scale war has thrown filmmakers into old-new challenges: a lack of resources and a shortage of personnel. The once-joking phrase about the “female face” of the Ukrainian film industry takes on a new meaning — with more and more male professionals mobilized, it is women who are left to keep the industry running.

It is in this context that we propose a discussion with women directors about the so-called female gaze in Ukrainian cinema, as well as the differences in approaches and the sensitivity to diverse experiences. The conversation will be moderated by Alyona Shylova, film journalist and creator of the YouTube channel Femme Fatale Heels.

🎤 This event will take place in Ukrainian, with no English translation provided.

This event is part of the ‘Women* in film‘ and ‘Celebrate diversity‘ sections of the festival.

This program is supported by Heinrich Boell Foundation, Kyiv Office - Ukraine.
