Experimental doc

  • KINO42 11Б Kostiantynivska Street Kyiv, Kyiv, 04071 Ukraine (map)

Experimental Doc is a program born out of curatorial attempts to trace the boundaries and characteristics of the experimental approach — something increasingly present in contemporary non-fiction cinema. Conceptually, experimentation resists standard definitions and categorization. That’s why this program aims to explore and at least outline the diversity of its potential in documentary: through form, artistic language, and modes of storytelling.

The films engage in a subtle, half-heard polylogue — about loss and rediscovery, preservation and destruction, paranoia and hope.

🎤 Films are screened in their original language, without Ukrainian subtitles.

LES FABRICANTS

Director: L.R. Phillips, Diane Verspeeten
Country: France
Duration: 18

From the empty carcasses of post industrial France, a new city came into existence. This city was made up of people who summoned an extra degree of imagination, resourcefulness and cultural identity, in order to create lives that fulfilled the same universal components we all require to call a place a home. Les Fabricants is a short film that captures a city in transition, from the communities that reclaimed it from an industrial vacuum, to the people who have discovered it as a place to realise their creative aspirations, to the inevitable regeneration that we now see forever transforming pieces of its infrastructure into a landscape of the future. This film is a motion painting with a veritable soundscape of voices, music, mechanics and nature, that portrays a brief and unique moment in modern urban history, delicately unveiling the humanity, nature and infrastructure that fabricate the soul of a city: Roubaix.
